With biggest single-day spike of 2112 cases, Assam's COVID-19 tally surges to 38407

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam has witnessed biggest single-day spike in the number of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as the state has registered 2112 fresh positive cases for the deadly virus on Thursday.

With the new cases the state tally for COVID-19 has now surged to 38407.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 2112 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the state in last 24 hours and out of these 283 cases have been reported from Kamrup (Metro) district, 211 cases from Nagaon distict, 210 cases from Kamrup district, 132 cases from Sonitpur district.

Two more persons died in the state in last 24 hours due to COVID-19 infection taking the death toll to 94.

On the other hand, the state has conducted 41028 tests for the novel Coronavirus in last 24 hours.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “2112 new #COVID cases detected in Assam out of 41028 tests in last 24 hrs. Kamrup (M): 283 Nagaon: 211 Kamrup (R): 210  Sonitpur: 132. Positivity rate~ 5.14%. Total cases 38407, Recovered 27832, cases 10478, Deaths 94.”

Earlier on July 21, the state had reported 1680 COVID-19 positive cases.

According to the state health department, in last seven days, the state has registered 9616 positive cases for the deadly and it has accounted 25 percent of the total cases.
