West Bengal: Covid-19 cases reach 1456 with 72 deaths

Kolkata/IBNS: The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 1456, including 1047 active cases, 72 deaths and 265 discharges, a senior state official said on Wednesday.

Bengal Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said that 112 new positive Covid-19 cases were reported in last 24 hours while 265 patients have recovered from novel coronavirus in the state till date, with the discharge of one person in the past 24 hours.

With four deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths caused by Covid-19 has reached 72.

"The total number of Covid deaths in West Bengal is 72, which is apart from the 72 co-morbid deaths declared by audit committee," Alapan Bandyopadhyay said.

"With 2570 tests were conducted in last 24 hours, we have tested 30141 samples till date," Bandyopadhyay said.

Presently, 4604 persons are kept in government quarantine centres across West Bengal while 9663 people are under home surveillance in the state, reports said.

Meanwhile, Union Health Ministry's Covid death count is still not matching with West Bengal government provided data as the MoHFW Wednesday update shows the total number of Covid fatalities in Bengal has reached 140.
