Lucknow/UNI: In the wake of the increasing cases of infectious disease 'monkeypox' in different countries including Europe and America, the Uttar Pradesh government issued an advisory on Saturday.

The Health Department issued the advisory for all medical institutions to maintain vigil at all levels, specially to identify those, who have returned from foreign trips in the recent past.

As a precautionary step the state government has asked to provide information of the people, who have visited these countries in the last 21 days, to the Medical Superintendent and to maintain a special vigil on them.

It has been stated that though not a single case of monkeypox has been confirmed in India so far, nor any case of death has been reported from it, but cases of this viral infection have been detected in a few countries in America, Britain, Australia and Europe till May 20.

In the advisory the government, while following the guidelines of the central government regarding monkeypox, has said that the infection spreads from animals to humans and then from humans to humans.

Symptoms of monkeypox are similar to the symptoms of smallpox. After four to six days of fever, rashes start to appear on the body of the infected person.

As per the guidelines it has been directed to keep the infected person in isolation for 7 to 21 days and follow the process of contact tracing by identifying the people, who have come in contact with him/her in the last 21 days.
