RTIICS to conduct screening camp for breast, lung cancer

Kolkata, Feb 2 (IBNS): Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS) is conducting a screening camp for breast and lung cancer to observe World Cancer Day on Wednesday.

The camp will be held at the hospital on from 11am to 2 pm by Dr. Rajesh Jindel – Consultant Medical Oncologist at RTIICS.

According to Rajesh Jindel - Consultant Medical Oncologist at RTIICS, “Lung cancer is a dreaded disease and, ICMR data, in 2009-11 states very high numbers of lung cancer cases were reported from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Long term survival in Lung cancer is not uncommon.”

Speaking about Breast Cancer, he said, “Breast cancer is major health risk to women specially those living in metros because of their lifestyle.  Every woman is at a risk of having breast cancer, particularly those who have a history of cancer in their family, those who have never borne children or breast fed, and those who are BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 positive. Regular self examination is a must for all women above the age of 15 years, and Regular Mammographic Screening by a consultant is a must for all women 40 years and above."

" In case of both kinds of cancer, an early detection makes way for better cure and faster recovery," the doctor said.
