Rhino poacher escapes from forest custody in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park

Guwahati, May 14 (IBNS): A rhino poacher, who was in Assam forest department custody, had managed to escape from the lock-up in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park.

According to the reports, the rhino poacher identified as 27-year-old Akhtar Ali, hails from Garubandha area near Jakhalabandha in Nagaon district had managed to escape from the lock-up of the Bagori forest division in the world heritage site.

The Kaziranga forest guards and Jakhalabandha police in Nagaon district had arrested the poacher on May 9 for his alleged involvement in rhino killing incidents.

According to the reports, the poacher used to reside at Bandardubi area near Kaziranga National Park since 2016.

A police official of Jakhalabandha police station said that, Akhtar Ali was involved in the rhino poaching incident in the national park on December 15 last year.

The Kaziranga National Park hosts two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceros.
