Srinagar, Jan 17 (IBNS) Hospitals in Srinagar and other hospitals of the Kashmir valley witnessed a massive rush after rumours of children's death due to polio vaccine surfaced in the state on Sunday.

According to reports, rumours spread this morning in the state resulting huge rush of panicked parents outside and inside different hospitals for check-ups after the dose of polio vaccination.

“Women have seen people crying and rushing towards hospitals,” said a resident in Srinagar.

“Rumours have spread in the area that the pulse-polio vaccine administered to children are expired,” said a witness outside a hospital in the Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir health department officials denied rumoured deaths in the state.

"Miscreants are spreading rumours through social media networks like Facebook and Whatsapp by saying that some children died after being administered polio drops in some areas of Kashmir," a senior official said.

Terming the speedy spreading reports over pulse polio immunization as baseless, top health as well as administrative officials appealed people to not to pay attntion to such things.

“We appeal people to ignore such kind of rumours. Some elements are trying to create hue and cry among the local people which should be ignored as everything is alright,” said a health officer to IBNS.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Javaid Mujtaba Gilani said that they will investigate the matter.
