Florida, Dec 5 (IBNS): In a significant development in the world of science, US space agency Nasa successfully launched its new Orion spacecraft from Florida on Friday.

The Delta IV-Heavy rocket blasted off the pad at Cape Canaveral at 7:05 local time, promising to create a new era of human exploration which will lead people to destinations like  Mars.

The ship is designated to take humans beyond Earth orbit into deep space.

"NASA's new spacecraft, Orion, is now more than 3,000 miles above Earth after the second engine burn of the Delta IV Heavy rocket.  Orion launched from Florida  this morning and is expected to splashdown in the Pacific at around 11:29 a.m. EST," read the NASA website.

"Orion is designed to take humans beyond Earth orbit into deep space, including missions to an asteroid and eventually to Mars," it said.
