India reports over 83,000 Covid-19 cases for second consecutive day, tally crosses 39 lakh

New Delhi/IBNS: India on Friday reported over 83,000 fresh Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day, pushing the overall tally of infections in the country of 1.3 billion people beyond 39 lakh.

The country has witnessed a spike of 83,341 new cases in 24 hours between Thursday and Friday mornings, taking the tally to 39,36,748, as per the data provided by India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Covid toll has touched 68,472 as 1,096 Coronavirus patients have succumbed to the virus in the same period of time.

As of now, the country has 8,31,124 active Covid cases while 30,37,151 patients have been discharged.

The Health Ministry in its daily briefing on Thursday said 70 per cent of the total Covid deaths have been reported from five states, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh.

On the other hand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu account for 62 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

The recovery rate in India as per the central government has touched 77 per cent.
