India reports over 4-lakh new Covid-19 cases, more than 4,000 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi/IBNS: India, presently the worst Covid-19-affected country in the world, on Saturday reported over four-lakh new infections, revealing in a more grim picture.

With 4.01 lakh cases, the country's active caseload has touched 37,23,446.

In the last 24 hours, 4,187 people have apparently died due to the infections. This is the highest ever deaths reported in the country in 24 hours since the pandemic broke out last year. 

The Covid-19 toll has further surged to 2.38 lakh.

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Manipur are the latest Indian states to announce a complete lockdown to stem the spread of the virus.

West Bengal, the eastern state of the country, went into a mini lockdown with the imposition of various restrictions.
