New Delhi/IBNS: India, the worst Covid-19-affected Asian country, on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases by registering over 69,000 infections in the last 24 hours.

The country of 1.3 billion people has reported 69,878 Covid cases in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, taking the overall tally to 29,75,701.

With 945 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the Covid toll in India now stands at 55,794.

Till Saturday morning, 6,97,330 Covid patients are under medical treatment in various parts of the country of 36 states and union territories.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO), which had earlier said Coronavirus will get "worse, worse and worse", on Friday said the pandemic will be over within two years.

In a separate development, Russia is keen to partner with India for mass production of Sputnik V, its Covid-19 vaccine, according to Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) which is funding the vaccine, said media reports.

In an interview with India Today, Dmitriev said India has the manufacturing capability to mass produce the vaccine and hence Russia is interested in bringing India on board.

In the interview, he said Russia is in touch with Indian regulators and also manufacturers to produce the vaccine in India, adding India, Indian scientists and Indian manufacturers understand Russian technology.
