New Delhi/IBNS: India's tally of Novel Coronavirus on Thursday touched 77.06 lakh with the reporting of close to 56,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

The country has added 55,839 Coronavirus cases in 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

In the same period, 702 Covid-19 patients have died taking the toll to 1,16,616.

68,74,518 people have recovered from the contagion since the outbreak of the virus in India in late January this year.

Though the daily cases have significantly gone down in the last few weeks, a possible spike in infections is predicted as the country is in the midst of a festive season.

Fearing the massive spread of Covid-19 through mass gatherings, the Calcutta High Court has barred all visitors from entering the Durga Puja pandals in the eastern state of West Bengal.
