COVID-19: Bengal sees highest-ever single-day spike of 1690 cases, 23 more deaths reported, recovery rate declines to 59.29 per cent

Kolkata/IBNS: With the highest one-day spike of 1690 infections, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has reached 36,117, including 13,679 active ones, 1023 deaths and 21,415 recoveries, the state health department said on Thursday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the last 24 hours, 23 more deaths were reported while 735 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities in the state after treatment, though the recovery rate has further dropped to 59.29 per cent from 60.06 per cent.

The bulletin stated that of the 1690 fresh infections, state capital Kolkata and its adjacent district North 24 Parganas reported the highest number of cases-- 496 and 403 respectively.

West Bengal has tested 6,63,108 samples till date with 13180 tests conducted in 54 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 4027 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 25380 people are under home surveillance in the state.
