Kolkata Oct 12 (IBNS) : The team of specialist orthopaedics at The Calcutta Medical Research Institute enabled a talk to discuss ways in which individuals could live freely with Arthritis.

On the occasion of International Arthritis Day CMRI not only educated the citizens of Kolkata about the condition and living with it in the modern world, they also launched a medical package to make treating arthritis a little bit easier.

The CMRI Orthopaedics team was joined by several senior members of Kolkata from Helpage India to observe this day.

These individuals also received medical check-ups and consultations from the CMRI orthopaedics team.

In line with the global theme for Arthritis Day, CMRI empowered patients to take steps to seize the opportunity and learn to live with Arthritis. The International Arthritis Day is observed across the world to raise awareness about Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMD’s).

RMD’s are one of the fastest growing diseases in the world and some studies show that almost every household is affected by it in someway.

The gamut of conditions falling under RMD include, degenerative spine diseases, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, connective tissue diseases and polymyalgia rheumatica. Ranging from minor pains to debilitating conditions, the CMRI orthopaedics team has seen and managed some of the most complicated conditions in the country.

The Team came together to raise awareness about the management of RMD;s and to educate those suffering from it on how to live with it and how to live well. With increasing number of individuals in the younger population being effected by RMD a focus on lifestyle and dietary choices is also essential.

Jashodhara Ghosh, Vice President, The Calcutta Medical Research Institute, said, “We at CMRI believe in a holistic approach to medicine. While we have some of the leading orthopaedic experts providing the best medical care we also felt it necessary to help patients cope with arthritis and learn to live well with it. Our doctors support and encourage their patients through this journey and World Arthritis Day was another platform to do so.”
