Assam: 28 people attend a marriage party, test positive for COVID-19

Guwahati/IBNS: A marriage party of Assam’s Biswanath district has now become a breeding ground of COVID-19 after at least 28 people who attended the wedding party have tested positive for the new virus.

According to the reports, defying all government orders, social distancing norms, around 500 people attended a marriage function held at Uttar Maral village in the northern Assam district on Aug 5.

Twenty eight persons, who attended the party, have now tested positive for COVID-19.

The district administration is now trying to find out the other persons who attended the party.

“We are now trying to find out other persons details. Health teams are engaged for it,” a top official of the district administration said.

Assam has so far reported 64,406 positive cases for COVID-19 and out of them 45,073 patients have discharged from hospitals.

The state has registered 2669 positive cases for the novel Coronavirus in last 24 hours and 115 people died due to the new virus infections so far.

The state has now 19,175 COVID-19 positive cases.
