Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals commemorates World Stroke Day

| | Nov 01, 2014, at 06:43 am
Kolkata, Oct 31 (IBNS) Kolkata's Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals observed the World Stroke Day in the city recently.

On the occasion, actor Parambrata Chatterjee released a special brochure and video on Stroke Awareness and its Prevention.

Jayanta Roy, Senior Consultant Neurologist & Stroke specialist, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupali Basu, CEO, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals, India said, “The primary reason behind us commemorating various health days is to create as much awareness as we can on various diseases and disorders and their subsequent treatment. Medical advances have greatly improved survival rates from stroke treatments during the last decade. However the chances of survival are even better if the stroke is identified and treated immediately.”

Jayanta Roy, Consultant Neurologist & Stroke specialist, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, added,” Our society is low on awareness about stroke and does not do enough to stop this devastating disease from spreading though it is largely preventable. Timely treatment of stroke can help recover victims if they follow FAST protocol as in stroke, every moment counts. We at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals have an organised stroke unit to handle acute stroke of patients of all sorts, manned by stroke specialists, trained staff and nurses with a dedicated rehab team.”

Parambrata Chatterjee said, “Though we all use the term ‘stroke’ quite commonly, most of us are not fully aware of its implications and fatality. The good news is that 80 percent of all strokes are preventable. It starts with managing key risk factors including high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, atrial fibrillation, hypertension and physical inactivity. I am extremely happy that I could be a part of this initiative of Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and contribute to spreading awareness on stroke among people.”
