Vodafone Idea lost 5.7 million customers in Dec, J &K adds maximum wireless subscribers : TRAI Report

New Delhi/IBNS: Vodafone Idea lost 5.7 million customers in December, highest since March 2020, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (Trai) report.

The country's total subscriber base had dropped from 1175 million to 1173 million in the previous month.

Bharti Airtel topped the wireless segment, adding 4 million customers in December. Reliance Jio added 4,78,917 fes customers during the same period.

Reliance Jio continued to be the biggest telecom operator with highest market share. While Vodafone's market share fell to 24.64 per cent, Bharti Airtel's market share expanded to 29.36 per cent, the telecom regulator's December report showed.

State-owned MTNL and BSNL also lost 6,442 and 2,53,330 customers, respectively.

There was a huge drop in the country's overall mobile subscriber, from 1,155.2 million in the previous month to 1,153.77 million in December.

Jammu & Kashmir showed the maximum growth of 0.99 percent in its wireless subscriber base in December, while Punjab recorded the biggest decline in mobile subscriber base at 3.34 per cent, the Trai repot stated.

Except Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai and Punjab, all service areas showed growth in their wireless subscribers during December, it added.

BSNL suffered a decline of 2,55,909 fixed line (wireline) customers and MTNL lost 23,277 customers. However, Reliance Jio topped in the segment, adding  2,35,317 customers in December.

There was a marginal rise in broadband subscriber base in the country to 747.41 million from 742.06 million in November.

Reliance Jio also led the broadband segment with 410.84 million customers, far ahead of Bharti Airtel with 179 million broadband subscribers and Vodafone Idea's 120.77 million in December.

India's wireless broadband segment expanded to 724.46 million connections in December from 719.53 million in November, stated the report.
