Sensex opens new high at 72,323.12 points

Mumbai/UNI: Surpassing its previous records, the BSE Sensex opened at a new peak at 72,323.12, up 284.69 points, supported by a global rally anticipating the US Central Bank would start cutting rates next March.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 81.50 points to 21,736.25.

The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 72,406.75 and 72,200.24 points, respectively.

The Nifty recorded intraday highs and lows at 21,759.05 and 21,699.75 points, respectively.

The Mid Cap moved up 0.26 and the Small Cap by 0.29 pc.

In 30 scrips, 25 advanced while 5 declined.

The gainers were M&M by 1.23 pc to Rs 1708, NTPC by 1.18 pc to Rs 309.55, Bajaj Finserv by 1.10 pc to Rs 1687.90, Titan by 0.90 pc to Rs 3721.85, and JSW Steel by 0.87 pc to Rs 884.25.

The losers were Asian Paints by 0.41 pc to Rs 3389, Tech Mahindra by 0.31 pc to Rs 1276.20, Infosys by 0.21 pc to Rs 1563.20, and L&T by 0.17 pc to Rs 3537.40.
