Hyderabad/UNI: South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is expected to contribute 75 percent in the overall category in the 5G segment this year against 67 percent growth expected by the overall industry, said Ghufran Alam, Senior Director, MX Business, Samsung India, on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters after launching two new mid-range smartphones in its Galaxy A series—Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55, Ghufran said 5G is one of the growth factors in the mobile industry, and last year, the overall mobile industry growth in 5G stood between 50 and 52 percent and is expected to grow to 67 percent in 2024.

As per the leading phone manufacturer’s analysis, the overall industry shipped 150 million units last year, where, Samsung's contribution was 18 percent, he said.

“We have robust growth in the smartphone segment and expect to continue the same growth this year,” said Ali.

He said Samsung operates 2,000 exclusive stores across the country and Hyderabad has 24 of them.

The new A series devices have multiple flagship-like features, including Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, camera features enhanced by AI, and a tamper-resistant security solution, the Samsung Knox Vault, amongst many other new features.

He said the Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G will help Samsung consolidate its leadership in the 5G smartphone segment and the fastest-growing mid-premium (Rs 30,000–Rs 50,000) segment in India.

For the first time, the Galaxy A55 5G has a metal frame, and the Galaxy A35 5G gets a premium glass back.

These phones are available in three trendy colours: Awesome Lilac, Awesome Ice Blue, and Awesome Navy, and are rated IP67, which means they can withstand up to 30 minutes in 1 metre of fresh water. They are also built to resist dust and sand, he said.

With the Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G, Samsung will provide up to four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates, optimising the lifecycle of the devices by keeping them equipped with all the latest Galaxy and Android features, he said.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G is priced at Rs 27,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage variant and Rs 30,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage variant, while the Galaxy A55 5G is priced at Rs 36,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage variant, Rs 39,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage variant, and Rs 42,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB internal storage variant.
