Bengaluru: Reliance Industries Ltd's retail unit opened its first in-house premium fashion and lifestyle store called Azorte on Thursday with an aim to grab a bigger share of the country's luxury market, media reports said.

The first store launched in Bengaluru will compete with rivals like  Mango and Industria de Diseno Textil SA-owned, and targets millennials and Gen Z.

"The mid-premium fashion segment is one of fastest growing consumer segments as millennials and the Gen Z are increasingly demanding the latest of international and contemporary Indian fashion," Akhilesh Prasad, chief executive of the fashion and lifestyle arm of Reliance Retail, said, Reuters reported.

The new chain of luxury retail stores is a part of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani's company's strategy to increase footprints in the retail industry, creating partnerships with domestic and international brands.

The conglomerate's lifestyle and luxury business are headed by Mukesh Ambani's only daughter Isha.
