New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to preside over the governing council meeting of NITI Aayog on 27th May, media reports said.

During the meeting, national priorities for the upcoming year will be determined through discussions with state chief ministers, the reports said.

PM Modi is the chairman of NITI Aayog.

As the government aims to transform the country into a developed economy over the next 25 years, inputs and suggestions from states will be sought to accomplish this goal.

The meeting will also focus on the progress in the development and implementation of welfare schemes in over 100 of the most backward districts in the country, according to the reports, Mint reported.

Usually, the full council meeting takes place on an annual basis. In the previous year, it was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 7.

In 2020, the meeting was not convened due to coronavirus.

The first meeting of the NITI Aayog Council was held in 2015.
