Ola is likely to lay off 200 employees across its software teams, especially those working for the work related to its app, media reports said.

The move is part of Ola's restructuring plan, which the company has been working on for the past few months, according to the reports.

The news of recent lay offs come in the midst of falling sales of the company’s electric scooter -- Ola S1 Pro scooter, report added.

Ola hasn't specified anything about the fresh layoffs and the number of employees it plans to remove.

Commenting on the matter, an Ola Spokesperson just said, "Ola Electric, India’s largest EV company, has been increasing its focus on non-software engineering domains with a clear focus on building engineering and R&D capabilities across - vehicle, cell, battery, manufacturing and automation, autonomous engineering streams.

"The company currently has around 2,000 engineers and aims to increase its engineering talent pool to 5,000 over the next 18 months. In light of these efforts, the company is centralizing operations and is undertaking a restructuring exercise to minimise redundancy and build a strong lateral structure that strengthens relevant roles and functions".

Ola has recently laid off 2,000 employees responsible for its pre-owned car business, Ola Cars, and quick commerce business Ola Dash.

Several top executives of Bhavish Agarwal's leadership team have also quit in the last two years.

The tech industry is going through a tough phase with companies like Netflix, Microsoft, and many others have laid off hundreds of employees.

Even Google has warned its employees to be more productive or be prepared for tough actions, indicating likely layoffs.
