Next spectrum auction in Feb 2024 at same reserve prices

New Delhi: The next spectrum auction, scheduled for late February 2024, will maintain the same reserve prices for most bands as in the 2022 auction, Business Standard reported citing the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officials.

The government anticipates a focus on low bands, particularly in the 600 megahertz (MHz) range, where many licenses are set to expire soon.

In September 2021, the government decided to conduct spectrum auctions annually, and efforts are underway to ensure the realization of this initiative.

Officials affirm that the reserve prices for low bands spanning from 600-2300 MHz, mid bands (3300 MHz), and high bands at 26 gigahertz (GHz) are expected to remain unchanged from the 2022 auction, aligning with the recommendations made earlier in the year by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

However, TRAI has yet to propose prices for newer bands like 37 GHz.

Projections indicate a reduced government revenue from the auctions, as major 5G operators Jio and Airtel have already secured the majority of the required airwaves.
