Mercedes-Benz invests over Rs 100 cr to make its best-selling SUV, GLC, in India

Hyderabad: Mercedes-Benz has invested 12 million euros (Rs 100 plus crore) in to manufacture in India its best-selling five-seater SUV, the GLC.

Talking to reporters after the launch of the best-selling SUV, the most advanced GLC, here on Thursday, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer said that there are 13,000 plus happy GLC customers in the country.

Across the globe, the model remains the most successful Mercedes-Benz SUV ever with 2.6 million units sold.

In H1 2023, six new Mercedes-Benz cars Iyer have been launched, Iyer said.

Women comprise 30 percent of Mercedes-Benz customers in Hyderabad, he said, adding that the city has the highest concentration of Mercedes-Benz luxury EV customers.

The automaker experienced 10 percent sales growth in H1 2023 in the city, and a 40 percent sales growth in TEV (top End Vehicle) in the same period.

Iyer said the company expects double-digit growth for this fiscal.

The all-new GLC comes with a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a second-generation integrated starter generator and 48-volt mild hybrid system, he said.

The luxury SUV comes with 2 power trains – GLC 300 4MATIC (petrol) and Diesel GLC 220d 4 MATIC (Diesel), he said.

The GLC 300 is priced at Rs 73.5 lakhs and the GLC 22od at Rs 74.5 lakhs (prices all-India ex-showroom).

The new GLC has garnered 1500 plus bookings across the country since the opening with 8 percent of the bookings from Hyderabad, he added.
