Leading tech company Intel has joined forces with eight Indian firms located in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana to accelerate the production of laptops in the country, media reports said.

These Indian companies are prominent players in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM).

The list of companies involved in this collaboration include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd.

This strategic partnership is expected to tap into Intel's extensive knowledge of the IT sector ecosystem to promote the growth of a robust laptop manufacturing industry in India, aligning with the Make in India initiative, which focuses on boosting technology-driven progress.

For some of these companies, this venture marks their entry into the laptop manufacturing sector. The alliance between Intel and these Indian manufacturers is set to strengthen their capacity to meet both domestic and global demand.

Intel has noted that this collaboration will play a pivotal role in establishing the production of entry-level laptops in India.

The company has shared its expertise in implementing advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly lines, establishing a rigorous quality control process for components, and setting benchmarks for finished products.

Intel has provided support to ODMs in both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly processes.

The initiative was lauded by Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar. “This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to drive India’s Digital Economy to $1 Trillion and enable the electronics manufacturing ecosystem to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26,” he said.
