India’s new consumer lifeline? e-Jagriti crosses 2 lakh users in record time!

The Indian government’s e-Jagriti platform has recorded over two lakh registered users since its launch on January 1, 2025, marking a significant expansion of India’s digital consumer grievance redressal system, the Department of Consumer Affairs said.

According to the statement, e-Jagriti has streamlined consumer complaint procedures by reducing paperwork, minimising physical travel and enabling digital documentation, while also improving access for non-resident Indians by removing geographical barriers.

As of November 13, the unified portal has facilitated 1,30,550 case filings and disposed of 1,27,058 cases, reflecting improved efficiency across consumer commissions. The OTP-based system allows users — including NRIs — to file complaints, pay fees online or offline, participate in virtual hearings, exchange documents and track cases in real time.

More than 2.75 lakh users, including 1,388 NRIs, have registered on the platform so far. This year, 466 NRI complaints were filed through e-Jagriti, with the highest participation from the United States (146), followed by the United Kingdom (52), UAE (47), Canada (39), Australia (26) and Germany (18).

The platform includes multilingual interfaces, chatbot support, voice-to-text features for elderly and visually impaired users, and end-to-end encryption for secure transactions. It integrates legacy systems such as OCMS, e-Daakhil, NCDRC CMS and CONFONET into a single interface to improve transparency and reduce fragmentation.

Among Indian states, Gujarat has lodged 14,758 cases, Uttar Pradesh 14,050, and Maharashtra 12,484 complaints as of November 13.

Role-based dashboards allow advocates to track cases and upload documents, while judges can access digital files and conduct virtual hearings.

The department said the system has issued more than 2 lakh SMS alerts and 12 lakh email notifications covering registration confirmations, e-filing receipts, case status updates and security alerts, helping users — including NRIs across time zones — stay informed and avoid delays.

Case disposal rates have also improved in 2025, with 27,545 cases disposed of in July–August against 27,080 filed, and 24,504 cases disposed of in September–October against 21,592 filed, surpassing 2024 performance and contributing to faster backlog clearance.
