India's electronic goods export value jumps to Rs 81,948 cr in 2020-21 from Rs 39,980 cr in in 2016-17

New Delhi: India produced electronic goods worth Rs 5,54,461 crore in 2020-21 while electronic goods worth Rs 81,948 crore were exported during the period, Minister of State for Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar told Lok Sabha Wednesday.

During 2019-20 the production stood at Rs 5,33,550 crore while exports reached Rs 82,936 crore.

In 2018-19, electronic goods worth Rs 4,58,006 crore were manufactured while the export value was Rs 61,908.

In 2016-17, the production stood at Rs 3,17,331 crore while it was Rs 3,88,306 crore in 2017-18. The export value of electronic goods was Rs 39,980 crore in 2016-17 while it was Rs 41,220 crore in 2017-18.

The government wants to make India a significant design and manufacturing hub for electronics by broadening and deepening the electronic manufacturing ecosystem.

In order to boost electronics manufacturing in the country and incentivize large investments in the electronics value chain, several steps have been taken.

To promote the electronics hardware manufacturing sector in the country National Policy on Electronics 2019 has been notified to position India as a global hub for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) by encouraging and driving capabilities in the country for developing core components, including chipsets, and creating an enabling environment for the industry to compete globally.

To attract and incentivize large investments in the electronics value chain and promote exports, Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI)for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing, Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT Hardware, Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS), Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme, Semiconductor and Display Manufacturing Schemes have been notified.
