Indian Market: Sensex tanks 1020.80 pts

Mumbai: The equity market remained negative for the third consecutive session on Friday, as the BSE Sensex dropped 1020.80 pts to close at 58,098.92 on weak global peers.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too tumbled down 302.45 pts at 17,327.35.

In opening trade, the Sensex fell by 114 pts at 59,005.18 During the day, it was crashed 1138 pts at 57,981.95 days low, before closing at 58,098.92 sliding 1020.80 pts from its previous close.

In stocks Power was worst hit, down to 3.40 pc followed by Utilities by 3.48 pc, Realty by 2.97 pc and Bankex by 2.50 pc.

In scrips, Powergrid, a major loser down by 7.93 pc to Rs 202.60, M & M by 3 pc to Rs 127.30, SBI by 2.99 pc to Rs 550.45, Bajaj Finserv by 2.80 pc to Rs 1722.25 and Bajaj finance by 2.73 pc to Rs 7510.

The gainers were Sun Pharma by 1.53 pc to Rs 920.80, Tata Steel by 0.58 pc to Rs 104.25 and ITC by 0.33 pc to Rs 346.25.

The Mid Cap fell by 2.28 pc and Small Cap by 1.92 pc.

In 30 scrips, 3 advanced while 27 declined.

The Asian Market remained weak.

Australia fell by 1.92 pc, China by 0.66 pc, Hong Kong by 1.18 pc and Japan by 0.58 pc.
