Indian Market: Sensex regains 198.44 pts
Mumbai/UNI: Snapping a losing steak of last four sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday recovered 198.44 pts to close at 58,664.33 on the strength of Power, Metal, Realty and Industrials stocks.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose by 86.80 pts at 17,503.35.
High oscillation was seen during the day in equity market today, as the Sensex plummeted 482 pts at 57,983.85 in early trade. It was dropped 747 pts at 57,718.34, days low.
Later, it erased earlier losses and ended positive at 58,664.33, rising 198.44 pts from its previous close.
The stocks like Power, Metal, Utilities, Capital Goods and Industrials jumped. Power and Metal went up more than three percent, followed by Realty by more than two percent and Industrials and Capital Goods by one percent each.
In scrips, a major gainer was Powergrid up by 3.89 pc to 201.80.
Other gainers were NTPC by 2.73 pc to Rs 133.75, Tata Steel by 2.16 pc to Rs 1190, Bharti Airtel by 2.01 pc to Rs 757 and Sun Pharma by 1.73 pc to Rs 784.
While the losers were IndusInd Bank by 2.50 pc to Rs 981.50, Asian Paints by 2.46 pc to Rs 3183.10, Infosys by 1.69 pc to Rs 1728.75 and Bajaj Auto by 0.24 pc to Rs 3435.85.
The Mid Cap was up by 1.61 pc and Small Cap by 1.81 pc.
In 30 scrips, 20 advanced while 10 declined.
The Sensex registered days high and low at 58,834.95 and 57,718.34 respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,553.70 and 17,216.10 pts respectively.
Asia market was seen weak as Hang Seng fell by over a per cent, while Kospi and Taiwan were down 0.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.
Straits Times too dropped 0.3 per cent.
While, Nikkei and Shanghai, however, were up 0.1 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively.
