Indian Market: Sensex recovers 261.16 pts

The BSE Sensex on Tuesday jumped 261.16 pts to close at 66,428.09 on the strength of Utilities, Power, Energy stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 79.75 pts at 19,811.50.

The Sensex opened on a strong note at 66,558.15, up 392 pts. It was spurted 393 pts at 66,559.82 during the day, before closing at 66,428.09, advancing 261.16 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that lifted the market were Utilities by 1.21 pc, Power by 0.98 pc, Energy by 0.94 pc and Telecommunications by 0.64 pc.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.39 pc and Small Cap by 0.70 pc.

In 30 scrips, 22 advanced while 8 declined.

The gainers were Powergrid by 1.97 pc to Rs 207.05, Kotak Bank by 1.22 pc to Rs 1771.50, Tech Mahindra by 1.17 pc to Rs 1197.40, ITC by 1.06 pc to Rs 453.45 and NTPC by 1.03 pc to Rs 245.95.

The losers were Tata Motors by 1.55 pc to Rs 655.75, L& T by 1.13 pc to Rs 3068.50, IndusInd Bank by 1.13 pc to Rs 3068.50 and TCS by 0.50 pc to Rs 350.65.
