Indian Market: Sensex rallies 358 pts

Mumbai/UNI: Extending gains further on Tuesday, the Sensex rallied by 358 pts to open at 32,101.91 on brisk buying in finance, bankex, auto and metal stocks amid global cues.

The nifty of national stock exchange too moved up by 36 pts to 9,389.80.

The Sensex registered intraday high and low at 32,164.65 and 32,013.97 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices that increased were Materials, Metals, Finance, Bankex and Auto.

The Mid-cap rose by 0.76 pc and Small-cap by 1.09 pc.

The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 9.99 pc to Rs 448.05, Axis Bank by 4.11 pc to Rs 444.85, HDFC by 2.56 pc to Rs 1633.10, ICICI Bank by 2.07 pc to Rs 354.95 and Bajaj Finance by 1.65 pc to Rs 2078.20.

The losers were NTPC by 1.30 pc to Rs 91.10, Reliance industries by 1.05 pc to Rs 1415.25, Powergrid by 1 pc to Rs 158 and Bharti Airtel by 0.72 pc to Rs 491.

In 30 scrips, 20 advanced and 10 declined.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 gained 1.5 per cent each and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.1 per cent.

The mixed trend was seen in the Asian market.

Japan's Nikkei was down 0.4 per cent while Australian ASX 200 was up 0.2 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up 0.2 per cent.

In commodities, oil plunged again on Monday. US WTI futures fell 24.6 per cent to settle at $12.78 a barrel while Brent crude slid 6.8 per cent to settle at $19.99 a barrel.
