Indian Market: Sensex falls 109.94 pts

Mumbai: Snapping a gaining streak of the last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday dropped 109.94 pts to settle at 54,208.53 on profit bookings by local operators.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 19 pts to close at 16,240.30. See-saw trend was seen during the session, as the BSE Sensex opened on a strong note at 54,554.89, up 236 pts.

It surged by 468 pts to reach 54,786, the day's high. Later, it dropped nearly 188 pts to reach 54,130.89, the day's low before closing at 54,208.53, easing 109.94 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 54,786 and 54,130.89 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 16,399.80 and 16,211.20 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Realty, Telecom, Consumer Durable, Oil and Gas and Technology stocks dragged the market.

In scrips, Powergrid was a major loser, down 4.55 pc to Rs 227.85 followed by Tech Mahindra by 2.14 pc to Rs 1172.45, SBI by 2.01 pc to Rs 457.95, L&T by 1.92 pc to Rs 1573.25 and Bajaj Finserv by 1.66 pc to Rs 12,758.80.

The gainers were Hind Unilever by 2.02 pc to Rs 2290.65, Ultracemco by 1.98 pc to Rs 6230, Asian Paints by 1.65 pc to Rs 3100.15 and Sun Pharma by 0.78 pc to Rs 899.

The Mid Cap drifted lower by 0.13 pc while the Small Cap rose by 0.33. In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined.

The Asian Market was seen positive as Australia went up by 1.03 pc, Hong Kong by 0.20 pc, Japan by 0.94 pc and Taiwan by 0.50 pc.
