Kolkata/UNI: With the capabilities of India’s business people, entrepreneurs, start-ups, skilled manpower, the country has the ability to become world’s number one economy in the next 25 years, said Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, Commerce and Industry & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, on Tuesday.

“When we celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047 can we all not resolve to be the number one economy in the world?” he said.

Goyal was speaking at an Interactive Session on the occasion of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Annual Session & AGM.

Industry and the government have to partner to ensure that India becomes 5 trillion dollar economy by 2025, he noted.

“Today is the time where the world is looking upon India as a trusted partner. The world is wanting resilient global supply chains. If we don’t grab this opportunity today posterity will never, never ever forgive us,” the Minister said.

He further added, “It is our duty, each one of us, to make Atmanirbhar Bharat our mantra, our inspiration, our goal.”

Atmanirbhar Bharat, he explained, is about expanding our engagement with the rest of the world.

He said, “We should import technology, import modern equipment, which can help us to do the job better, which can help us produce to scale better quality, better productivity standards and cost-competitive manufacturing in India.”

Goyal finally said, "We need to make sure new India for tomorrow should be ‘owner’s pride and neighbour’s envy’."

He also praised ICC’s good work over the last 95 years. Covid, he said, has helped the nation, as well as the Government, recognise ICC’s very important contribution to the nation’s economic development.

Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, ICC Advisory Council and Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, said during his deliberation that Indian Chamber of Commerce is committed to its role in nation-building.
