India enters global chip race as Tata Electronics partners with semiconductor giant ASML
Tata Electronics and Dutch multinational corporation ASML, on Saturday, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem during the ongoing visit of PM Narendra Modi to the Netherlands.
Under the partnership, Dutch multinational firm ASML will support the establishment and successful ramp-up of Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm (12-inch) semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat.
The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the growing strategic partnership between India and The Netherlands in the field of critical technologies, particularly semiconductor manufacturing.
As part of the agreement, Tata Electronics and ASML will work together to deploy ASML’s comprehensive suite of advanced lithography tools and solutions at the Dholera facility. The deployment of ASML’s industry-leading technologies is expected to ensure seamless operations at India’s first commercial 300 mm semiconductor fab, delivering high-quality value to Tata Electronics’ global customers.
The two companies will also collaborate to develop domestic talent, strengthen supply chains, and promote research initiatives to support the long-term success of the Dholera Fab.

Tata Electronics is currently developing India’s first 300 mm commercial semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned total investment of US$11 billion.
The facility will manufacture semiconductors for a wide range of applications, including automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other high-growth sectors, serving customers across global markets.
Tata Electronics has also entered into a strategic partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan, gaining access to a broad technology portfolio that includes 28nm, 40nm, 55nm, 90nm, and 110nm process nodes.
Construction of the Dholera plant is progressing rapidly, with the ASML partnership representing another key step in Tata Electronics’ broader strategy to build partnerships across the semiconductor value chain, including equipment, process and design technology, and materials.
Recognising that a skilled domestic workforce is critical to India’s ambitions of becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing hub, Tata Electronics has partnered with several leading Indian and international institutions to train local talent.
Together, Tata Electronics and ASML will also launch initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor talent pipeline and ensuring a robust pool of skilled professionals for the future.
