India conducts 43.3 crore digital transactions every month: Nirmala Sithraman

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the robust digital public infrastructure and widespread access that has propelled India to the forefront of digital transactions, media reports said.

Addressing the Viksit Bharat 2047 Ambassador Campus Dialogue in Pallavaram, she highlighted that in India, 43.3 crore transactions are conducted monthly through digital payments, free of charge, news agency ANI reported.

"The country is becoming a hub of digital infrastructure. Digital public infrastructure has been designed in such a manner that it involves the seller, the buyer and the payment system. 43.3 crore transactions are being conducted digitally per month," she was quoted as saying by ANI.

Addressing the event, the finance minister emphasized that India is now manufacturing mobile phones not only for domestic use but also for export to other nations and this has happened because the efforts of the present Indian government.

According to the report, Finance Minister Sitharaman said "The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have incentivised the industries to invest in thorium, solar energy and green hydrogen sector. India has also joined hand with other countries to make progress in the renewable energy sector and in the coming future India will become a leader in the renewable energy sector."

Sitharaman underscored the accomplishments of Indian startups, noting their expansion into the space sector.

She emphasised that the government has opened up the space industry for private investment, offering opportunities and support to new entrants.

The allocation of Rs1 lakh crore in the interim budget for science and research, will further propel the growth of emerging startups in India, she added.

Sitharaman highlighted the benchmarks of Viksit Bharat, stating that improved infrastructure, modern schools, and hospitals are pivotal indicators of its progress.

She reiterated that the Modi government's focus is directed towards achieving the Viksit Bharat objective through infrastructure development.
