Dell’s workforce shrinks by 10% amid cost-cutting, reaffirms DEI commitment: Report

| @indiablooms | Mar 27, 2025, at 09:40 pm

Dell Technologies' workforce shrank by 10% in fiscal year 2025, with employee numbers dropping from roughly 120,000 to 108,000 as of January 31, according to the company’s annual report, Reuters reported.

The reduction comes as part of Dell’s broader cost-cutting strategy, which also includes a hiring freeze.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Despite the downsizing, Dell reaffirmed its stance on fostering an inclusive workplace. "We are committed to equal employment opportunity and continuing to implement inclusive policies that enable Dell Technologies to achieve these goals," the company stated in its report, as per Reuters.

DEI initiatives under scrutiny in the US

On his first day back in office, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order dismantling federal DEI programmes, arguing that such initiatives promote discrimination. He also directed the Department of Justice to investigate whether these efforts violate the law.

Corporate responses to DEI policies

While major tech companies such as Meta, Amazon, and Google have scaled back their DEI initiatives, others, including Apple, Costco, Goldman Sachs, and Cisco, continue to strengthen their diversity commitments. Some corporations, like McDonald's, have opted to rename their DEI programmes.
