Alka Mittal becomes first woman to head ONGC

Mumbai/IBNS: State-owned exploration and production company Oil and Natural Gas Company (ONGC) appointed Alka Mittal as its first woman chairman and managing director.

ONGC said Mittal, who is the head of the Human Resources department of the company, has been given the additional charge as the head of the organization.

She will hold the post for six months or until a regular appointment for the position is announced, whichever is earlier.

Subhash Kumar, former director (finance) was given additional charge as chairman after the superannuation of former chairman Shashi Shanker on March 31, 2021, ONGC has not had a full-time chairman and managing director.

Mittal has been given the additional responsibility of the Maharatna company after Kumar retired on December 31, 2021.
