New Delhi: Adani Total Gas Limited, a joint venture of Gautam Adani's gas unit and French energy major Total, has bagged deals to retail gas in 14 Indian cities, according to a statement from Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

PNGRB received bids for 61 of the 65 geographical areas (GAs) put up for auction in the 11th city gas distribution licensing round, Reuters reported.

It announced results for developing infrastructure and the sale of gas to automobiles, households, and small industries in 52 geographical areas (GAs).

Despite being a fossil fuel, natural gas emits less CO2 than coal.

The government has set the target of increasing the share of natural gas in India's energy mix to 15 percent by 2030 from the current 6.2 percent.

State-run refiner Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has won licences for eight areas while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has won four licences.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Think Gas Distribution Pvt Ltd have bagged one licence each.

Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd, a private company, received the rights to retail gas in 12 GAs.

A consortium of Assam Gas Company and Oil India is the front runner for gas distribution in three areas in the northeast, the Reuters report stated.
